Vakantiehuisje Winterberg

Lidl is just around the corner, and you can take the bus or drive to the slopes. We chose to walk, though the uphill route felt a little too far. On the way back, we managed to snowboard part of it, and skiing back is definitely possible. A great base for an active Winterberg weekend. We came after heavy snowfall for a long weekend. Two girls, 12 and 14, wanted to learn snowboarding, and their dads came too. It’s an excellent option that isn’t far from home. The apartment had everything we needed, with lovely beds already made, a homely feel, and good amenities. The 4G reception inside was poor, so better WiFi would have helped. We had Dutch contact beforehand and were welcomed by a German lady.

It was my second stay here. The bathroom has since been renovated and is now beautiful and easy to get into. We saw deer behind the house, and the area is lovely for walks and cycling. The apartment has all the amenities and was clean, though very dusty, which was a shame. I didn’t find the shower on its raised platform very convenient. The location works well for everything, and the bike/ski box is useful for storing skis or 2 to 3 bikes. There’s also a Lidl within walking distance for fresh rolls in the morning. Without all that dust, I’d have given five stars.

The room has been altered to fit more people, with a partition and curtain. That leaves the bunk-bed area without a window, something the description doesn’t mention, so it gives a misleading impression. The bathroom looks very old, probably from the 70s. The towels also seem to have been around a long time, and smelled strongly and unpleasantly after just one use.

Right in the center of Winterberg, so the location is ideal. The apartment has comfortable beds, good Wi-Fi, and a lovely big balcony. There’s also a DVD player with a selection of films.
