Park Inn By Radisson Wismar

The room was lovely and fresh, and the location made it easy to walk to everything in Wismar. The staff were very friendly and gave me great help figuring out the different ticket options in the Deutsche Bahn app. My only real gripe was the frosted glass bathroom and washroom doors. It's only a small thing, really, but I can't give 4.5 stars here.

Breakfast was really good, and the AC worked great, which mattered a lot in the 35 degree heat. Those are the reasons I'm giving two stars, though I'd probably choose another hotel if we return to Wismar. A lot of little things made the hotel feel poorly maintained despite looking almost brand new in many ways. One outlet was loose, the bathroom outlet wasn't properly encapsulated, the soap dispensers were empty or broken, and there was limescale in the basin along with dirty grout and silicon joints. At over 200 euros a night, I wouldn't expect that. The shower floor also slopes strangely, sending water away from the shower and toward the toilet. They'd left a rake for this, so it seems to be a known issue, but still. Check-in was rough from the start. A busload of people arrived just ahead of us and seemed to overwhelm the front desk. We waited while they got their keys, then when it was our turn, the man at the desk saw we weren't with the group and said, "I can't deal with you right now, you can talk to my colleague." His colleague had been there the whole time but hadn't indicated we should go to her. We eventually checked in, but got a double bed instead of the two separate beds we'd booked as two friends traveling. The hotel seemed full and apparently considered it an upgrade. We separated the beds, which worked, but they didn't give us another bedsheet, so we had to make do with blankets we'd brought.

There are basics for a quick morning workout in the gym, though you have to ask reception for the key. Parking at the hotel costs only 5 euros a night, handy if you're arriving by car. The room was spacious and modern, with a comfortable bed and pillows and a control panel for setting the lighting mood. It's a modern hotel fairly close to the center of charming Hanseatic Wismar, and very good value. I can recommend it.

If you're booking for more than two people, be aware that the rooms can't accommodate more than two. There is only one bed, a king, so you'll be sharing it. I don't know why Radisson lets you book this way. If you're two people, you'll be fine. The room itself was large and nice, the bed comfortable, and the shampoo and conditioner were great. But I didn't initially get what I'd paid for and had to fight for suitable accommodation. I booked through the Radisson website for three adults and one child. The front desk checked us in and took payment, then we found the single king bed in our room. Staff weren't helpful and kept saying it wasn't their problem, that I'd used a third party and it was my fault. I showed them my email and tried to explain kindly that I had booked through Radisson. Only after a major argument did they call the manager and give us another room. The next morning they apologized, since they were able to book the same kind of room I'd booked. Surprise. They also kept saying I should have known not to book a room that size for four people. I pointed out we'd just come from Denmark, where there were rooms half this size with more beds that folded into the wall, so that logic didn't hold up. I don't want anyone else to go through what I did, especially being told, sorry, it's not my fault you booked a room without enough beds.
