The view across the historic town square is marvelous, and the regional cooking was excellent. We had the beef and mixed vegetables, which were super yummy, with ingredients sourced locally, including Galloway beef raised nearby. The building dates back to 1659 and has been meticulously renovated. It’s an authentic historic place, with beautiful guest rooms, ensuite bathrooms, comfortable beds with good mattresses, and an excellent kitchen. Honestly, this property and Wolfhagen’s historic wood frame city center deserve a place in every Japanese guide book. They can easily hold their own against Japanese shrines and castles, many of which are steel frame replicas, while this place is made with locally grown oak and clay. Beautiful!

The hotel is clean and stylish, with a tapas bar that also serves as the breakfast room. One small note for the staff: a few kind words, some eye contact, and a smile don’t cost anything 😉🙂
