Jugendherberge Wolfsburg

It’s a very quiet place, even on a weekend when you’d expect people to be out partying. The beds are sturdy and the mattresses comfortable, and for the price it’s good value. At check-in, the woman was really nice, showed us to our room, and gave us a city map. You do have to make your own bed and put on the sheets. My German friends said that’s normal and helps young people learn to be orderly. I’m sure most guests after us will enjoy staying here too. :) Best regards.

There’s a nice beach volleyball court and ping-pong tables both inside and out, though there wasn’t anywhere to ask for a ball. I like the simplicity and austerity of Jugendherberges, but this stay went a bit too far. We arrived outside reception hours, which are only 8:00 to 12:00, even though check-in doesn’t start until after 15:00. I had trouble figuring out how to get in, but a couple of calls and some misunderstandings sorted it out. I didn’t understand German completely, which contributed to the confusion. I tried to reach someone at reception during opening hours the next day, but nobody was there. At least someone was available for checkout the following day, and she was polite. The lack of staff may be a consequence of the Covid aftermath.

It’s close to the centre of Wolfsburg and seems like a nice place for young people. Just be prepared for noise if a school group is staying at the same time. The canteen can also have a 5-10 minute queue with all the children and teenagers, so arriving five minutes before it opens might help.

The staff were friendly, and everything was very clean and nice. It’s not luxurious, but that’s not what I’d expect from a hostel. I had a very positive stay.
