The portions were generous, the coffee was great, and they even had non-alcoholic beer on tap. We had a fabulous supper on the sunny terrace one evening, my wife choosing schnitzel and me the steak. The owner of the Pension where we were staying nearby had recommended the place. We'd gladly recommend it too.

A great base for hikes and bike rides, with plenty of free parking and lovely surroundings. Zell is a pretty, tidy village, and the hotel is well placed for exploring the Black Forest and French Alsace. It's family-run, three-star, very clean and neat, with a lovely traditional Black Forest style. Breakfast offers lots of choice, and service feels personal and very good. The owner is a skilled cook: the fresh dishes are tasty, original South German food, with a manageable menu and some lovely creations. The soups and desserts are great, and prices are moderate. Rooms have a full bathroom with both a bath and shower, comfortable beds and a choice of cushions. Nothing felt shabby or smelled bad. Dogs are welcome, too. It has everything needed for a good, comfortable stay and is excellent value.

We could get around the restaurant easily in a wheelchair, and there’s step-free access at ground level. When we arrived late last week, despite the staff being stretched thin, they welcomed us warmly and served us a delicious dinner. The junior manager was friendly and fun to talk to.
