Strandhaus Zierow

We had everything we needed in this very clean, modern, comfortable apartment. It's right by the beach and makes a handy base for excursions, though there's plenty to do in the apartment too. A beautiful place for a very fair price.

The beach was very covered in seaweed, possibly because of strong winds. Back at the apartment, both patios were quite dirty, and the table and chairs were old. A storage box for the patio cushions would help, since they are currently stuffed into the cupboards and leave little room for guests' things. Inside, a bath mat would make the smooth tiles safer, and a rug in the living area, as others have suggested online, would feel better underfoot when it's cool. The coffee machine also needs replacing or at least descaling: after 45 minutes of loud sputtering, it only makes lukewarm coffee.

The surrounding area is lovely, and the people deserve five stars. The view was also worth five stars. But I stayed here in early April 2024, and the apartment was disappointing: the furnishings felt very sparse and uninspired, and it used to be so beautiful. The kitchen supplies were minimal, and every plate, saucer and cup was chipped. That might be easier to accept at a reasonable price, but this was definitely overpriced for what was promised and not delivered. If I wanted to camp, I'd have had different expectations. The campsite has similar prices but meets them, with value for money clearly a priority. If I return, I'll stay there in a cottage with a direct sea view. The patio furniture was incomplete and worn, and the parasol had holes and was held with a bungee cord that fell apart when I tried to take it off. It seemed like the parasol hadn't been used in years. Cleanliness was another serious problem. The glasses and cutlery were sticky, dirty and covered in what looked like greasy fingerprints, so we put everything through the dishwasher before using it. A phone call might usually clear up concerns, but the "housekeeper" (?) was curt and said she'd provided two small bottles of sparkling wine, so it wasn't exactly "unloving." Outside, a smoldering Easter bonfire in a fenced-off parking lot under construction burned throughout our 10-day stay. People kept adding trash and garbage to it, and the smell was awful. The patio description should perhaps be revised to prevent this sort of disappointment, and the price should be adjusted. I've tried several times to post this review, including 8/26/2024, 9/3/24, 9/4/24 and 10/22/24, but it keeps getting blocked and deleted. I'd appreciate the owners addressing critical comments.

We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday with our dog and would love to come back. The apartment is modern and lovely, spread over two floors, with a large balcony and even a charging point for our electric car. It's centrally located, with Wismar, Schwerin, Bad Doberan and Lübeck not far away.
