Aparthotel Zingst

The hotel is comfortable, and the location is extraordinary. It’d be even better if the staff spoke English.

Pretty good.

Great.

We’d been looking forward to returning to the former Steigenberger Hotel after 14 years, now as an aparthotel. We won’t stay again. For the price, the experience fell well short. We booked an apartment with breakfast and two parking spaces, one in the underground garage and one outside the complex. Car trouble meant we arrived after 6 p.m. As arranged by phone, we got the key from a safe. But the building is large, there were no directions to the apartment, and the reservation had no room number. The phone just went to an answering machine, and we never got a call back, even after more than a week. With a toddler and elderly people along, we had to search floor by floor and room by room to find it. That was a frustrating start. The apartment was comfortably sized for four, but the furnishings were still dated. Mosquitoes were a real nuisance, and while there were screens in the bedroom, none were fitted in the living room. From 11 p.m. onward, the restaurant’s foreign employees started cleaning loudly: crushing piles of cardboard boxes and moving garbage cans around. There was no chance of a good night’s sleep. With a small child, or if you want any peace, this is an absolute no-go. Completely inconsiderate. The underground parking space we’d booked wasn’t available. The alternative was over a 40-minute walk away, an unreasonable distance for a 70-year-old with some physical limitations. Luckily, we’d ended up bringing only one car. Breakfast was advertised in the building, but it wasn’t offered. We were told it wasn’t possible there, so we had to use the neighboring "Seebrücke" restaurant. The apartment does have a kitchen, but breakfast should be available on holiday.
