I arrived today, and the room I booked is great and spacious. The hotel restaurant is closed for dinner for two days, unfortunately. Check-in went very well, and they even let me in before 2 pm. I asked for a kettle and they sent one up to my room, thank you so much.

I only stayed one night, so my experience of the hotel and staff is limited. The location is excellent and much nicer than others in the area. The building isn't the newest, but it's kept in good condition, even if you can spot lots of quick repairs and improvements done over time. My room was missing a ceiling lamp, and some electrical switches had duct tape on them. The staff, though, were very nice and tried to make my stay as good as possible. Thanks for that (:

The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are friendly. The breakfast buffet has a wide choice of pretty much anything you might want. It's very close to the beach, just across the road, and near the city centre with its bars and restaurants.

We had a mixed experience. We were staying at the very nice Logierhaus Friedrich, but were “only” booked for breakfast at this place during the opening week of the famous Horizonte Zingst Photo Festival. The breakfast itself was generally very good. It didn't match the Steigenberger, but at €15 to €26 that's an apples-to-oranges comparison. The service varied a lot. For half the week, a blonde tattooed lady was more than friendly. The other half, staff seemed to do only what they had to. When my wife asked for real milk in her coffee, she got a rather sharp “why don't you check the milk at the buffet.” To be clear, we were both born in Germany, so this wasn't a language problem. Outside, getting anything at all was a disaster. Coffee was hard to get, and dinner was a horrible experience. It's a nice class of place, but a billing issue nearly brought my rating down to two stars. I believe we were charged twice for breakfast. One staff member agreed it had been prepaid; another checked back with Mr Bark, who didn't bother to check himself and demanded that we pay again. We did have some very nice moments, so three stars is pretty generous. Would I go back? Maybe, if someone I know confirmed they'd worked on making service more consistent. Would I make a detour just to visit? Most likely not. Sorry! Thanks for reading my comment. If you're curious about my rating scheme, here's the background. I'm a music photographer who has travelled the world for almost 40 years with some of the world's greatest musical talents, including Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, and Rammstein. When people asked where I lived, I used to say “in hotels.” At my peak, I shot 250 shows a year. I've been around and experienced a lot, as my doctor would confirm while urging me to lose a few pounds. My wife and I walk ten thousand steps a day wherever and whenever we can, exploring new places that you might miss by simply driving past. I like sharing my experience, but sometimes I'm shocked by how people use their “power of word” to give amazing places a low rating over small incidents. At my all-time favourite restaurant, Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza in Los Angeles, the owner was called racist for refusing to toast free bread in a packed restaurant. They simply don't offer toasted bread, as French places don't, as I understand it. I also read a complaint about chicken piccata being so salty that the writer hoped their dog would enjoy the leftovers, after taking most of the dish home. Did they tell the staff? How can a restaurant learn something was wrong if guests have their leftovers boxed up? As a dog owner, I'd want to shake that person and ask, “you give over-salted food to your dog?” Anyone with a bit of sense knows that's a horrible idea. I hope you agree. If I had a say on this portal, I'd want to see ratings from my friends, people with similar tastes. But I don't, so I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this just isn't comparable to “The Ritz.” I start by assuming a restaurant is clean, doesn't greet you with a gun, and delivers what it promises. I don't give stars for what's expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars means a place exceeded expectations. Four means I'm sure I'll return. For five, I'd have to be willing to take a detour of thirty minutes or more to go again, and that sadly doesn't apply here. Thanks for reading this.

The rooms were clean, the hotel was quiet, the breakfast delicious, and the location excellent. Everything is within easy walking distance. The only annoying thing was having to ask for the Wi-Fi password every day.
