Strandhotel Zingst

I found the hotel while looking at places to stay in Zingst and booked a few months ahead, reservation number SHZ2300031761. We were there August 28 to the 31st. The location made it easy to explore everything on foot, and we had a great time. My mother turned 75 on August 29th. I booked her a Jr. Suite, while my cousin and I had a nice room with ocean views. I emailed Mrs. Caluewe-Lange about flowers and a bottle of champagne for my mother's birthday. The Housekeeping Manager delivered both to my room as requested. We opened the champagne in my mother's room, and a little later the manager returned with a cake and a bottle of Sekt. The card was signed by Hotel Director Kai Harmsen. My mother appreciated the thoughtful gesture so much. Breakfast was another highlight for her. I had arranged a table with Mrs. Caluewe-Lang, and we got a lovely spot with a great view, decorated for us. The buffet had a wide selection and everything we tried tasted very good. Having a glass or two of Sekt with breakfast was a nice touch. The rooms were clean and well maintained, and we all had great views. My mother's room looked over the small plaza in front of the hotel, and the minibar in each room was restocked every day. The welcome dinner I booked for our arrival was very good, and the next evening the Restaurant Manager had saved the same table for my mother's birthday. The Restaurant Staff made that night special. The menu had something for everyone, with a great wine selection and good beer. I ordered oysters, and the manager suggested a wine pairing. I also had a burger, one of the best I've ever enjoyed. Dining felt effortless and fun, with friendly staff who went out of their way for us. My cousin and I used the Sauna and Wellness area every night. The saunas were lovely, though it would have been even better if they stayed open later than 9pm. We planned to watch a movie but had forgotten an HDMI cable, and the Front Desk found one for us. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. I've been in the hotel business for over 30 years. This hotel is spectacular, and Mr. Harmsen and his team run a very well-oiled machine. They work hard to make each guest's stay memorable. If you're after a quality upscale hotel and a really great experience, I'd stay here. I'm certain you won't regret it.

The rooms were 5/5, and service was 5/5. The spa and wellness area was great overall, though I'd give it 4/5. The steam sauna had a worrying moldy smell, and the area may need an overhaul fairly soon. Dinner gets 4/5. The menu was good, just not exceptional. Breakfast was also 4/5, with an impressive choice and generally very good food, though a few items didn't match the quality of the rest. The local honey and smoked salmon were awesome. The Nürnberger sausages seemed low quality. I'd prefer fewer choices if the quality were more consistent.

The hotel is beautiful, and its pool and spa area are lovely. It's close to everything. Renting a bike is a good idea if you want to see more of the beautiful area.

Treatments can be booked in advance, but ours were canceled when we arrived, supposedly because there was no capacity. The wellness treatments are already very expensive compared with other hotels nearby. When I asked reception, I got different explanations, and afterward there was no apology or attempt to make it right. For the standard the hotel wants to represent, that's unacceptable. On Friday evenings, heavily intoxicated people who aren't guests gather there and act aggressively. It left us feeling uneasy.
