Gasthaus Destille

For me, Destille stands out for its quality, warm hospitality, and down-to-earth charm. The food is excellent and freshly made, a highlight each time I visit. The Braumeister schnitzel is especially good, juicy, seasoned just right, and a real treat. The service is attentive, the atmosphere welcoming, and the staff clearly put passion into their work. If you want a good meal and a lovely evening somewhere you feel welcome, this is the place. Highly recommended, and thanks to the owner for carrying on and continuing to look after guests despite the hostility. I also think some recent comments have missed the point about the political issues. The owner welcomes everyone, and renting out rooms is simply part of running a business. As a business owner myself, I know it matters to take opportunities and think economically. Room rentals don’t show support for any particular political ideology. Other parties or associations could hold events there too, since the doors are open to them. Reducing this deliberately to a political leaning is unfair to the establishment. I’d report reviews that make such a nonsensical claim. Anyone who mistakes this for political affiliation is seriously out of touch. Neutrality means offering everyone the same opportunity, and that’s what happens here.

We had a genuinely terrible meal here some time ago, and a friend of ours posted an equally negative review. The owner responded by getting it removed, claiming it was based on false statements. That makes the good reviews hard to take seriously. Anything the owner dislikes seems to get taken down instead of being treated as feedback and used to fix problems, which is what a reputable business would do.

The cathedral view is amazing, with lots of trees around, and you can bring the kids since there’s a sandbox for them. The staff are so welcoming that you feel like part of the family. They’re happy to host all kinds of fun events, too. I celebrated my husband’s birthday here and they took care of everything ✨🥹❤️ Definitely my favorite place in the city. And my drink pick is Pina Coladaaas All the Way ✨✌🏻

The staff always make me laugh with their cheerful mood and the jokes they share among themselves. You don’t get that at every place. I also keep coming back for the food: salmon noodles, solyanka, schnitzel, or rump steak, it’s all delicious. The cocktails are great too, and everything is very fairly priced. Sometimes there’s a live event, which adds to the atmosphere. As always, a great visit. See you soon, and greetings from the Rhine.
