B&B HOTEL Aalborg

Breakfast was lovely, and the accommodation was fairly new and well located, near a supermarket and the city. The rooms are snug rather than large, but nice, and the bathroom is snug too. There was no tea, coffee, or kettle in the room. I asked for a kettle and appreciated being able to make tea in my room. We didn’t know parking had to be paid for, as that wasn’t shown on our booking site. After a long drive, we arrived early to check in and were told we had to pay for parking, plus extra because we’d arrived early. The parking was outside the hotel and uncovered, unlike the parking we’re used to in Australia.

For a chain, the check-in is awful. The rooms also offer less than you pay for, and the property sits by two major roads, so there’s a lot of traffic noise. I booked through a travel agency and had booked eight different hotels through them, including this one. The other seven got my details from the agency, and I never had to provide all my personal information myself. This might have been a minor annoyance, except the way the information was requested seemed to break several GDPR rules. When I raised that, they offered neither a way to cancel and refund the booking nor a way to provide the information legally. That was unacceptable. Reply to the owner: I understand you have to collect guest information, but I gave the travel agency everything required by law, and every other hotel collected it from them digitally. You’re the first one I’ve experienced that didn’t. The details I had to write on paper are protected under GDPR and shouldn’t have been left at the front desk as they were. When I left, I noticed what looked like a digital self-check-in service. If the reception team were really such feel-good heroes, they could simply have directed me to use it. The service I received doesn’t earn a hero rating. Should you get a good review for providing the service I paid for, or is that just what a customer should expect? I give good reviews to places that go beyond what’s expected, and poor reviews to those that don’t provide the service bought.

The location worked really well for us, with the station about a five-minute walk away on level ground and the centre and harbour sights easy to reach on foot. We got there at 11am and could leave our bags in the reception lockers for free until check-in. The reception team were friendly and helpful throughout, and the place was spotless with everything working. Breakfast is a perfectly acceptable continental spread of cold meats, cheese, fruit, bread and cereal. I thought some of the other reviews were too dismissive of it. The price was very reasonable compared with similar Aalborg hotels, and I’d happily stay here or at another B&B group hotel again.

I don't normally review hotels, but I had a really pleasant stay and would pick this place again when I’m in Aalborg. The staff stood out most, especially the woman in the breakfast area. I wish I could remember her name. She spoke respectfully and knew how to make older guests feel at ease and welcome. The food was okay, and I liked the hotel's location.
