First Camp Ajstrup Strand

The place is lovely and clean, and we liked having shared kitchens with their facilities. The Wi-Fi only works by reception, which we weren't keen on. Families with young kids get a lot of useful services here, but as a couple who didn't use the kids' facilities, we felt the camping price was a bit high.

Booking online was easy, and the map let us choose from the available pitches. The campsite is right by the sea, with a lovely beach just a short walk away. We loved riding our eBikes into Aarhus on the beautiful coastal route through the magic forrest. It was 16 kilometers and quite hilly, but we enjoyed every minute. The sanitary facilities were spotless, with plenty of toilets and showers and room to wash dishes. The site itself had green grass, trees and hedges, and was in a very quiet area with holiday cottages and houses nearby. There was a food truck, which I think changed from day to day; we were there two nights and had excellent chicken and fries, hot and well-seasoned, with juicy chicken and crispy fries. I added photos of the beach behind the campsite and the route to Aarhus, but unfortunately didn't take any of the site itself.

We arrived an hour after reception had closed, without a reservation, and couldn't get in touch with anyone. The phone number for after-hours help went unanswered despite many calls. We also tried the QR code to book online over and over, but kept getting the same message about a problem. After an hour of trying, we gave up and left. Never again.

The facilities were very good, the site was well kept, and the service was good. This was our second stay at FirstCamp, at a different campsite, and we had technical trouble both times, once in February and again in May. The chain's website, booking system and call center all seem to have issues. On both visits the after-hours check-in machines were out of order, so be prepared for a long wait on the call center line if that happens.
