Ærø Guesthouse & Cafe

The owner was easygoing and accommodating, and the grounds were really nice. Our first room felt cramped, but a bigger one was available, and the owner arranged a good deal for the upgrade. Some rooms are small, and the food seemed a bit expensive for what you get, though that’s understandable in a small island town with little going on. The beds were comfortable, and it’s a quiet, cozy place to stay. Just be aware that the doors can be a little awkward to lock and unlock.

The location made it easy to get around, check-in and check-out went smoothly, and what we got matched the listing. Still, we barely slept because of banging and loud, wild voices at night, as if the devil himself had moved in. The guesthouse has potential, but the rooms are small and old, and some door handles feel like they’re about to fall off. Getting the key to work was a patience test, like some kind of kid’s game. The shared bathrooms were another problem: the shower is just a showerhead against linoleum walls, which felt creative but looked unclean. The shared kitchen has a fridge, but no basic things like a stove or even scissors, so it’s hard to cook.

The owner gave such attentive service in a lovely spot. We had delicious salmon sandwiches with smooth flat whites, and we’ll be back next time we sail here.

Everything was clean and tidy, and the staff were lovely and very helpful. We were especially happy with the location, just a three-minute walk from the registry office where we were getting married early in the morning. It was great.
