Dragør Hotel & Apartments

We had a car, so staying here in this lovely little town worked well for a night near CPH airport. The place itself is beautiful, and the staff were accommodating about our check-in and check-out needs.

Parking was a real headache, and the listings about the extras didn’t match what we found. We booked through Booking.com and checked the hotel site too, where free toiletries and an iron and ironing board were listed. None of the four apartments had the iron or board. The “free toiletries” amounted to very diluted hand soap, and there were no other toiletries in our apartment. That was true in both 4/5-person apartments, though I later heard our family in the other one was offered some by the cleaning lady. We were a group of 11 and booked four apartments, two for 2/3 people and two for 4/5. They were spacious and in a great location, with comfortable beds and good kitchens stocked with the equipment you’d need. The dishwasher was a nice touch, with tablets included, and having both a fridge and freezer was useful. The toaster looked pretty grim, so we used the oven and grill instead. It took us a while to unlock the oven, and a manual would have helped. The apartments were quiet in the evening and overnight. There were a number of small maintenance problems. Both larger apartments had broken toilet roll holders, and the flush buttons had to be held together while flushing or the toilet wouldn’t flush. One bedside lamp didn’t work. The sloped bathroom sink was a design we all disliked. The website says there are power sockets by the bed, but the lamps were plugged into them, so they weren’t actually available for charging phones. My adult daughter planned to sleep in the fifth bed in the lounge because she gets up early to run and didn’t want to wake her adult brother. Its pillow had hairs and debris on it and clearly hadn’t been changed. These are mostly things that could be fixed easily, but there were a lot of them. We could have kept going back to report each issue, but that wasn’t appealing during a two-night stay for a 60th wedding anniversary gathering. We ate at the restaurant one night and reviewed it on Trustpilot.

The apartment was clean and spacious, and Dragor’s harbor, with its fishing boats, made for a lovely walk around the village in the morning. We stayed here overnight while flying from Athens to Chicago via Copenhagen, and it was only about a 10-minute cab ride from the airport. I’d happily come back. The hotel’s restaurant served magnificent food at both dinner and lunch, and breakfast came from a bakery half a block away. My wife and I stayed in this charming little hotel in fall 2013. Our one real drawback was having to haul several heavy suitcases up and down the stairs, since our apartment was on the second floor and no one helped.

The place was clean and pleasant, with friendly service and clean, nice restrooms. We both started with the salt-cured salmon, black soy-based sauce, and greens, which was very good. My colleague’s turbot with potatoes, white sauce, and white asparagus was nicely presented. The potatoes and asparagus were fresh and cooked just right, but the fish was over-fried and had too dark a crust. The sauce needed more fond, or perhaps some gastrique. I had a good burger, though the fries seemed prefabricated and didn’t measure up. At this price-to-quality ratio, I’d give it three stars. The food itself could merit three stars if it cost, say, 15% less. Still, I’d recommend the place and we’ll visit again.
