Legoland Castle Hotel

For our son's birthday we booked the birthday package. They decorated the room, left non-alcoholic sparkling wine and gave him a LEGO set. The welcome for the kids was lovely too: a riddle led them to open the safe, where each found a LEGO set. Breakfast was very tasty, though we skipped dinner at the hotel because we thought the meals were quite expensive. The hotel is beautiful, with impeccable decor that sends children and adults into a fantasy. It's close enough to walk to Legoland and the Lego House, even with kids. Our first Legoland visit and first stay here were a wonderful experience.

We were welcomed throughout our stay by friendly, attentive staff, and the rooms were spotless, spacious and designed with comfort and the full LEGO atmosphere in mind. The location was hard to beat, with everything a short walk away. It was our first time in Denmark, and if this is Danish hospitality, it's world-class.

The rooms look great, and walking to Legoland is easy. Staff were friendly, there's a fun riddle on arrival, and kids can play with LEGO in the halls and with a small box in the room. Still, the value for money is poor. For one night, it might be worth it if you accept mediocre food and the awful parking setup. The breakfast was the worst I've seen in a hotel at this price. The bacon looked overcooked but wasn't crisp, and although the bread was nice, that wasn't enough. The evening buffet tasted okay and you could probably find something to eat, but the pizza wasn't great and much of it was fast food quality, like chicken nuggets and fries. It doesn't fit the price category. Parking out front is run by Europark, a scalping company with 1.2 stars on Trustpilot. At this price, the hotel should have its own parking, put the charge on the bill and take payment at departure. Instead you have to book a ticket online within an hour of arrival through Europark or face almost 1,000 DKK in fines. One lamp in our room didn't work, and there was only a shower, no bathtub. At this price, that's below average.

The whole family had a good time, and the setting is what makes it work. The decorations and sound effects put you right in the mood for Legoland. It's not luxury, and you can almost forget the showers have curtains instead of glass. It fits the bill for a fun family stay.
