Comwell Kellers Park

The sauna and quiet room were both spacious and pleasant. I especially loved the outdoor hot tubs, where the hot water feels great against the cold air. A really relaxing spa visit.

The rooms were spacious, and the air conditioning worked wonderfully. The grounds are pretty and make for a lovely walk, but that’s about the only thing to do if you haven’t booked a spa package. Our room had only body wash, with no pool or other amenities, while the spa side had robes, slippers, and a much more peaceful, beautiful feel. It seemed like a completely different hotel. At check-in, the staff were unhelpful and rather snarly. When I asked for water in the room, I was told to drink from the bathroom sink using plastic cups. My husband and I stayed three nights at the Comwell without a spa package, and we hadn’t realized there would be so little to do on the grounds. If you want the pretty setting but can’t afford the spa package, move along.

After many stays at Comwell Kellers Park, this visit has me wondering whether I’ll come back. The staff showed no concern when things went wrong: no apology, compensation, or indication that they cared. That was especially disappointing as a returning guest. The room was in unacceptable shape, with mould around the windows, hairs on the bathroom floor, yellow marks on the sink, and a partly blocked drain clogged with old hair. Even the corridors smelled stale, like an old museum with no ventilation. Dinner was just as frustrating. We arrived on time for our reservation but waited 20 minutes to be seated. Then, after we chose a wine, the waiter took another 30 minutes to tell us it wasn’t available, so we had to pick again. My first course arrived with a large, half-dead fly in it.

The spa was relaxing, the room comfortable, and breakfast the next morning was pleasant. The building is beautiful, too, and hearing about the property’s history before it became a hotel gave the stay extra character. Dinner was confusing from the start. Food arrived within five minutes of us sitting down, before we’d ordered. We then found out the gift card covered that day’s set menu, something we hadn’t been told in advance. When we asked about the main course, the waitress said it was fish. My partner doesn’t eat seafood, so she kindly offered chicken instead, but fish was brought for both of us anyway. We reminded them and they fixed it, but my meal had already been served and had to be taken back so we could eat together. Knowing the menu ahead of time would have helped with both planning and dietary needs. Check-in also felt impersonal. We were given an iPad to enter our personal details, which made for a cold welcome and took away the interaction with the receptionist. It would have felt more guest-friendly to collect the information before arrival and just ask for ID and a signature at check-in. I visited using a gift card that included dinner, a night’s stay, spa access, and breakfast.
