a&o Copenhagen Sydhavn - Hostel

The receptionist understood that the room wasn’t somewhere a decent person would spend the night, and the refund was processed quickly. Those are the only reasons I’m giving two stars. I knew the price was low and didn’t expect much, just a clean place to sleep. Instead there was cigarette smell everywhere, dust, mould, bathroom stains, and marks on the furniture and walls. It was a complete mess, and I couldn’t physically stay longer than a minute. Don’t consider it unless you have no other choice. It could cost you your health.

We were really happy with the facilities and service. Our twin room came with a private toilet, and everything was clean. Housekeeping could be booked for free. There’s also a guest kitchen for cooking, eating dinner, and keeping food in the fridge. The lobby is lovely, with a play room and places to relax. They even provide a laundry room, ironing room, and luggage room at no charge. A very comfortable hostel, definitely recommended!

For two nights in May 2026, this was an awesome, affordable stay. A&O sydhavn had some of the best prices in the city and felt like great value. I’d put it among the best hostels in Europe. The area is quiet and away from the city centre bustle, with bus stops and metro stations within walking distance. Come see for yourself and enjoy your stay.

The bathroom smelled awful, and moths showed up in it every night. There was also a lot of dust accumulated under the bed. We arranged a room cleaning and got a confirmation email, but nobody ever came in to clean. Then, oddly, an email arrived asking us to rate the cleaning. We had messaged through Booking.com 15 days before and again the day before our reservation, but didn’t get a reply until the reservation date. On the good side, the staff were kind and helpful, and breakfast was sufficient with a nice range of options. The room was assigned for four people though there were only two of us, so it was the right size for us. With four, there probably wouldn’t have been enough space even to open luggage.
