Hotel M18

The room was spacious and warm, and good value. There are convenient bus and metro links, plus a lovely shared area for making a brew and having a chat.

I found this place at the last minute for a trip to Copenhagen. The bed was really comfortable, and the room had everything I needed. There was some grime here and there if you looked closely, but as a solo traveler paying this price, it didn’t bother me much. I’d seen lots of reviews mentioning bedbugs, but I didn’t see any, so it seems they may have dealt with the issue. It was a great stay.

The location was the one real plus for us. In our ground-floor apartment, some windows looked straight onto the street instead of the courtyard, so it felt exposed, like anyone passing could look inside. The room stayed damp enough that clothes left out to dry got wet again. The carpet and blinds were filthy, which was disgusting. The internet kept dropping and was slow when it worked. We also had food go missing from the shared fridge, and the communal areas felt disorganized and a bit sketchy. A man who might have been the manager was smoking inside by the kitchen. Noise was another constant problem. Even with the windows shut, garbage trucks and other residents opening the nearby gate woke us around 7 every morning. We could hear the upstairs neighbors walking as if someone were hammering on the ceiling. The walls are incredibly thin. And while we didn't run into bedbugs, I suppose we were lucky.

I was left outside Hotel M18 with no way into my room or any reply from the hotel. I arrived at about 10 PM on May 21st, after getting an email with code 912 for the key box. The box needed four digits, though, and the three-digit code didn't work. I tried several combinations, and two guests from Greece tried to help and confirmed it wouldn't open. I called the number in the email over and over and messaged through Hotels.com as instructed. Nobody responded by phone or on the booking site. By 11:30 PM, I was stuck outside in a foreign city with nowhere to sleep. Other hotels I called were closed or full. I only avoided spending the night on the street because a stranger heard me talking and offered me somewhere to stay. It was frightening and extremely stressful. Hotel M18, at Meinungsgade 18 in Copenhagen, left me without a key, support, or any response in the middle of the night. That's completely unacceptable and shows no service or responsibility. I have the incorrect code, a photo of the key box, and my call logs documented. I've asked for a full refund and compensation, and will escalate the complaint if they don't get back to me. My advice is to avoid Hotel M18 unless you're willing to risk being locked out and left on your own.
