Esbjerg Camping

Esbjerg is a small city with plenty of industry and a harbor, but also has nice museums with lots for kids, plus some lovely breweries and coffee shops. If you're after a quaint, cosy Danish town, this isn't the place. The campsite itself is great, though I wouldn't pick this location again unless I was happy to drive somewhere every day. It's near the sea, but you have to cross a busy road, and swimming isn't allowed along the whole beach. The site is nicely set up for kids, with two playgrounds, a pool and a train that takes them on a daily tour. It's got what you'd expect from a campsite, and the team is very nice. The apartments are only sparsely equipped, with no basics, so you need to book sheets and bring things like kitchen towels, hand soap, herbs and oil. Cleanliness was okay.

The place was clean and nice, and the kitchen was well equipped for a longer stay. I wish management had explained that cleaning was included for the mobile homes. The table instructions made it sound optional for us to clean ourselves, so we spent time doing it, yet were still charged DKK 450 for cleaning.

There are clean facilities, a pool and playgrounds for children, and it's a good place to pitch a tent. But one tent costs quite a lot: the nightly price is the same as for a campervan, 115 DKK, plus 103 per adult.

The front desk staff were helpful and pleasant, and although the prices felt a little high, showers were included for us as tent campers. The stay was otherwise pleasant, but it ended badly. I left my wristwatch charging in the kitchen, where there are three banks of four plugs. As I went to take it, a camp staff member pulled it from the socket and asked what it was, saying I hadn't paid to use that plug. It took a while before he gave my watch and charger back. There were no signs saying the plugs in that facilities room couldn't be used. They looked to me like they were there for that purpose.
