Hotel Faaborg Fjord

The rooms are basic but comfortable, and they have balconies. The hotel has more of a corporate feel than the quaint places around town, so it depends what you’re after. Parking was great, the seaside location was nice, and we had a good stay while exploring the town.

International travellers should know there’s no lift, kettle, iron, fridge, or other facilities you might expect even at a 3 or 4 star property. There is tea making equipment in the foyer, but it’s only available until 2 pm. After that, you can pay for tea and cake in the restaurant. That feels like price gouging. Adding a lift would be a major job, but surely a couple of electric kettles could be made available for guests who want tea in their rooms. Based on these issues, which other reviews have also raised, I’d give customer relations one star.

I was exhausted, but ended up waiting outside after staff said my room was ready. I’d left the sign asking for it to be cleaned, yet it hadn’t been done when I arrived. Once they cleaned it, the job was still poor: only the towels were replaced, while the bathroom was left dirty and the sheets unchanged. Really bad service.

The breakfast was a highlight, with lots of good quality options. The spa also felt new and had plenty to choose from, including infrared light, several saunas and a snow room. It’s quite small, though, so it works best when the hotel keeps the number of people down. The hotel is very close to the ocean. Our room was a little worn, and the beds were extremely soft, but we still slept all right. Check-in was less flexible than at other spa hotels we’ve visited. We needed the room an hour early because an event we attended finished very late, and had to pay extra for that. A good stay, though there’s room to improve.
