Korinth Kro Hostel

We were one of several couples that day who were surprised by the “abandoned” Royal Privilege Inn. The website seemed a bit misleading at first. For a night’s sleep, it was okay: the room and bathroom were clean, the beds were there, and we slept reasonably well. But for the same price the night before, we’d stayed at a hotel in Svendborg with a TV, bath and toilet in the room, a harbor view, and free coffee, chocolate and more.

ZERO STARS! The place is completely run-down, and we were shocked. I tried calling when we arrived, but nobody answered. The toilet in the shared bathroom looked ready to fall out of the wall. I’m not sure what else to say, except it’s absolutely not recommended, especially at that price 😳…

Korinth Kro felt like an exciting night in a haunted house straight out of a horror film. If that’s your kind of thing, you owe yourself a stay. The old buildings are beautiful, though still being renovated by a local civic group. They bought the inn from Faaborg-Midtfyn municipality for 1 kr in 2016, saving it from demolition. The first 11 small rooms in the annex reopened in 2019, and the civic hall in the main house was ready for parties in 2021. The rooms are small and cosy. The beds aren’t the best, but they’re fine for a night or two. There’s a really nice kitchen and living room, and the hallway bathroom and toilet are new, clean and lovely. Out back, there’s a cosy yard with evening sun and a campfire. I happened to meet someone from the civic group, who showed me around and talked about the place and project. I had my eight-week-old baby with me and it all worked out great. I recommend it and look forward to following the project and visiting again.

We stopped at Korinth Guest Farm while crossing South Funen on our way to Southern Jutland on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022. Tenacious locals took over the old Guest Farm because they didn’t want it demolished, and they’re now restoring the whole place. It’s easy to see why it deserves to be saved, and it’ll be beautiful when finished. Thanks for a pleasant stay. We’ll come again and look forward to seeing the work completed.
