Vemmetofte Præstegård

We spent relaxed evenings in the shared living room, reading or playing cards, and the outdoor area was beautifully looked after. The rooms were spacious and lovely, and Vibeke took great care of us. Breakfasts in the garden stretched out over a long time, with homemade bread and jams and local treats. Our six kids could kick soccer balls around at the back of the garden without bothering anyone. Sharing one shower was manageable, though not ideal. We visited Faxe Kalkbrud to look for fossils, then went to the Labyrith park the next day, which the kids loved. From Præstegården, we could walk to dinner at Restaurant Skovfoged, about 2.5k away. Such a hidden gem.

Even with the rain and wind during my October visit, the park, forest and beach made this a charming place for long walks and reflection. Mobile reception is weak, but the excellent Wi-Fi makes up for it. I was here for work and would definitely come back for a romantic break. The old vicary at the Vemmetofte Mansion feels like a real escape to the Danish countryside, much more than a B&B. The rooms are spacious, with care put into every detail, and the staff make you feel at home in warm, cosy surroundings. It’s peaceful and rarely interrupted, which is hard to find. A lovely place for creative work. Vemmetofte Præstegård is already one of my favourite places among the hundreds of hotels I’ve visited.

A lovely setting with a special energy, and the grounds are a treat. On one side, a lovingly laid out park has huge oaks, beeches and lime trees, with lawns dotted with flower and rose beds. The old U-shaped farmhouse and its courtyard on the other side are very well kept. The monastery itself is enormously beautiful, with the feel of a country house. Well worth a visit!

Vibeke is a welcoming hostess in the old rectory, which has been restored beautifully and with respect for its history. The room was spacious, nice and clean, and breakfast was lovely. It’s also close to attractions in Stevns, including the experience center about Stevns cliff, a UNESCO world heritage site. A wonderful place, and one I highly recommend.
