Strandhotel Klitrosen

The room was dusty throughout, with mold in the grout, water damage on the ceiling, and a disgusting soap rack. Breakfast was decent, assuming you still had an appetite after walking past pools of vomit from the wedding the night before on the way to the buffet. Getting checked in was a struggle too. We waited at the desk for 10 minutes before having to find the concierge at the far end of the hotel, inside the kitchen. We’d requested a child bed and one was in the room, but its mattress was an adult top mattress folded to fit. No amount of origami could cover the whole bed, so a 3-4 year old would have their head or feet sticking out. We were travelling with a baby, so there was room enough. The room was chilly, and the radiators wouldn’t warm it up. Sound carries, and our room was next to the outer door, which took a lot of force to shut properly. Drunk wedding guests kept letting it slam in the wind, and I had to get up four times one night so we could sleep. The bed squeaked more than any I’ve ever heard. My wife couldn’t get out without waking the baby. They were elevation beds, which was nice, but mine wouldn’t lie flat, so I had to sleep in awkward positions. Possibly the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had.

We’ve had both dinner and lunch at the restaurant, twice. With the new owners and staff, the quality has been really good.

The rooms have been renovated and the beds are good. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the beach is very close.

Good-sized servings of tasty, quality food, and the service was great too.
