The breakfast was quite nice, the bed comfortable, and there are some pleasant walks around town. The receptionist was very friendly, but the stay itself was uncomfortable. The hotel looks deliberately old-fashioned, yet it’s outdated in ways that cause problems. The bathroom was tiny but usable, and after using it the drains smelled awful. With no extractor fan, the smell spread through the room unless the windows were wide open, which wasn’t practical in winter. We also started feeling ill in the morning. It began to pass after checkout, and we thought it might have been mould or something similar.

The place is cute and cozy, and the food was phenomenal. Staff were great, and the building sits on a little town square, making it easy to walk around the area, including the train station, shops, and restaurants. It’s no Ritz-Carlton, and you carry your own luggage. Our shower was tiny, but everything was well maintained and meticulously clean. I’d absolutely stay again.

I went with my school for a program. The room was okay, I guess, but the bathroom was horrible. Its door wouldn’t lock, and the shower was basically the whole bathroom. I showered the night before, and the floor was still wet. It was horrible.

When I visit from Florida, Hotel Frederiksværk is perfectly located for enjoying nature, the beach, charming surroundings, and Danish food. I had a fantastic dinner with family last night, and Mille the waitress went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It felt like a five-star experience, not just a hotel. If you want to experience Danish culture, I highly recommend Hotel Frederiksværk.
