Den Gamle Kro, Gram

We'd planned to have lunch, but the service was terrible. A rude young woman made us carry our own drinks out to the outdoor seating, even though she took drinks out for other people herself. She also left part of our order out. The whole visit put us off coming back.

The breakfast was a real highlight, with a great range and quality of food, served in quite grand rooms. The restaurant is good too, with some fine beers and a beautiful house burger with chips, though it must be several thousand calories. If you still have room, there's an ice cream cake. Across the lake from the restaurant is the castle, and beside the rooms you'll find a 10-million-year-old killer whale, quite spooky at night. This is a comfortable place to stay in a quiet part of Denmark. The rooms are large, have a drink-making kit, and each one has an outdoor garden sitting area. They're a bit dated, and curtains would be better than blinds, but overall they're comfortable.

The room had a strong sewage smell, which made the stay pretty unremarkable. The food was okay, the staff were friendly, and the location is interesting, but there isn't much to do beyond a day or two. I can't see why this place ranks so highly here or on other platforms.

The breakfast buffet had a much better selection than at other places I've stayed. Dinner was absolutely sublime for the fairly low price, and service was great from the start, thanks to a very well-mannered young man.
