Hotel Harmonien

The staff were so kind and helpful, they really went above and beyond. Rooms are average, and breakfast was acceptable. We were in an even-numbered room on the ground floor, where cars on the gravel drive were extremely loud. Once it sounded like a car might come straight into the room. With the windows shut it got too warm, but leaving them open meant being woken up repeatedly.

Dessert was the best part for me, with so many cakes that I couldn’t try them all. The starters were strong too: lots of salmon appetizers, fried fish, tuna spread, and tasty dips. The traditional Danish main dishes didn’t really impress me. I went to the Christmas party for its big buffet, but the courses came out so quickly that there was little time to eat. It began at 6:30 pm, and by 10 everything had been cleared, with nothing left to come back to later. That seems to be an issue with Danish parties in general.

The rooms feel a little dated, and ours had a fan we couldn’t use because its cord had been cut. Opening the windows wasn’t a good option either, with the street noise. It’s a basic hotel, and the breakfast is simple.

Breakfast was the one bright spot, a typical Danish buffet with everything you’d expect. The hotel itself is well located but badly needs renovation. There are lots of function rooms for weddings and parties, and on a Friday or Saturday the noise from the street or parking area was almost unbearable all night. The Danish-style bathrooms have had their day, as have the beds and pillows.
