Hotel Norden

The location is good, and the town is picturesque and peaceful, with a beautiful lake nearby. It’s a small, quiet hotel with comfortable rooms and an exceptionally good breakfast. The rooms are small, though, and not ideal if you’re traveling for business.

We booked Hotel Norden at the last minute and were upgraded to a business suite overlooking the lake. The rooms are a little dated, but immaculately clean. The bar, restaurant, and pool are all lovely, and the prices seem reasonable for the location and standard. USB ports in the room would’ve been nice, but that’s a minor thing.

I was very disappointed with my stay at Hotel Norden and would strongly advise against booking it. The rooms are small, dated, and have an unpleasant smell. The bathrooms are cramped too and badly need renovation. Dinner was mediocre at best, nowhere near worth the price. I’d rate it 1/10. Breakfast was another letdown for what they charge. On Monday, January 27, 2025, the selection was even worse than usual. It was by far the most inadequate breakfast I’ve had in all my travels, with barely anything to choose from and no value for the money. The staff tried to be polite and accommodating, but I got the impression that the owners put profit ahead of guest satisfaction. There was no reception service after 14:00-15:00, which was very inconvenient. At check-in, we were emailed a PIN code for entry, but our room keys and names were left in an envelope at the reception desk. I consider that a serious GDPR violation, and it raised privacy and security concerns for me. There was also an issue with the card exchange rate. The hotel charged 1 EUR to 7 DKK, while banks offer between 7.4 and 7.56 DKK per EUR. I found this unfair and felt it was another way of overcharging guests. This was an overpriced, poorly managed stay that seemed focused on maximizing profit at guests’ expense. I won’t return and strongly recommend others avoid the hotel.

The staff are friendly and helpful, and the prices are reasonable. The location is excellent, close to the city center and right by a lake. The building is a little old, and the practical, functional style seems short on aesthetic sense. I don’t mean the rooms themselves, though.
