City Camping Hjørring

The pitches are attractive and the site is well placed for the Dana Cup, though a few can flood when it rains. That’s about all I can praise. Because we booked as soon as our daughter’s soccer club confirmed it would take part, we paid twice the normal rate. The old, rundown sanitary facilities are cleaned just once a day, and there’s only cold water for washing dishes. I wouldn’t recommend it. There are plenty of other campsites nearby.

There’s a swimming pool, lots of room, a large kitchen and dining room, and a washing machine. Showers are free with a card from reception. The receptionist was really friendly and even let me use a basic little cabin at no extra cost when rain was forecast, so I wouldn’t have to take a wet tent on a ferry. At first she quoted €35 for one small tent for a night. When I said I’d go elsewhere, she suddenly said that would cover two nights.

The six-square-metre cabin had just some sand on the floor, which we wanted to sweep out through the door when we left, but there wasn’t any cleaning equipment. They still charged us 150 crowns, about 20 euros, for final cleaning. We’d barely used any electricity and were charged 35 crowns a day for it. After the holiday, we emailed the owners with lots of questions and possible improvements because we were so unhappy. The woman from the campsite didn’t speak English or German very well, and her response about cleaning was essentially that the 150 crowns were for us not having done it ourselves. It says a lot that they don’t seem interested in listening or improving. Don’t go here. The amount charged for what you get is ridiculous.

It’s close to the city centre, but the cabin cost more for one night than a hotel room would have. Inside, it was dirty, with cobwebs everywhere and dirt and sand under the beds and sofa. No apology or compensation for the mess. The restrooms were subpar and dirty too, and the pool was extremely cold on a hot summer day. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
