Hotel Amerika

I was booking three rooms for my wedding nearby. Just two days before, I got a Booking.com message saying the hotel would be unstaffed from 13:00 Friday until 0800 on Monday, with check-in only through an app. That came as a surprise, and I couldn't risk being unable to get in. Since this wasn't mentioned when I booked, it felt like an unreasonable change to the agreement. After I contacted the hotel, they agreed to have staff there to help us check in, which did help. Still, the whole situation was unfortunate.

There was no staff in the building over the weekend, which made the place feel unsafe, and the check-in app only worked occasionally. The rooms were bare and had no soundproofing. In the bathroom there was mold, spiderwebs, and bugs. Shower water spread across the floor, and the fan didn't work.

The food was excellent, and breakfast was very good too. The chef clearly works to a high standard. Our room was nicely decorated, with beautiful paintings on the walls. The hotel itself is luxurious and set in a lovely location.

Right by the forest and not far from the fjord, this is a lovely little hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly, and spoke English. The bar is small but well stocked. Breakfast was the best I've ever had at a hotel, and we enjoyed the evening meals too.
