Hotel Sidesporet

Really cute, charming, and clean room, but extremely small. Breakfast was good and the people were nice.

The menu runs to five pages, one for interesting dishes and four for drinks. You’ve got to love this place! The Danish food is good, prices are reasonable, and the beer and snaps are cold. In summer, the deck has a great view over the fjord, and there’s convenient free two-hour parking in front of the restaurant. On my dinner visit I tried the Wienerschnitzel. Great flavor with anchovies, capers, and lemon. The house wine was good for the price too. It’s a place worth visiting.

The hotel responded to feedback, and they did grant our request for a room overlooking the fjord. They also acknowledged and corrected a double-billing mistake. That sort of thing can happen anywhere, but I’d want to know about it if I were choosing a hotel from reviews. It’s a great location, though the service was hit and miss. Some employees were accommodating and vaguely friendly; others seemed annoyed, as if doing their regular duties was a favor to guests. There’s no elevator in this three-story hotel, which could be a problem for some.

It’s a five-minute walk from Holbaek station. The rooms are small but cozy, and the washroom is small too. Breakfast was ordinary. There’s no elevator, so take care with luggage on the old-fashioned spiral staircase.
