The beds were soft and the breakfast was great, and the bistro was excellent, though pricey, like plenty of things in Denmark. Staying somewhere with so much history was a fun experience, with lovely views. Getting luggage up those wicked stairs to the second floor was a challenge, though. It's in the middle of nowhere, and the bikes are awful, so don't count on them.

What a pearl in a beautiful landscape. We were grateful for the whole experience, and everything went perfectly from arrival to departure. The 14 dishes were wonderful, and the restaurant's wines were an outstanding selection. Staff were genuinely interested in bringing the place's story into the stay, with the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere all beautifully coordinated. The history came through subtly, with real insight. Wauh!

Being able to explore the castle and its facilities on our own was lovely. There were game rooms, lounge areas, a bar, and a museum, and the countryside setting was beautiful. I'd definitely recommend booking an overnight stay. Breakfast in the stables was great, though after dinner ended at 1 AM, we chose the late breakfast and missed the museum guide. We booked the gourmet stay with a night in the castle, a Michelin dinner, and a matching wine menu. We added a glass of Louis roederer batch 244 champagne with the snacks. The food deserved its star, and the sommelier introduced the very well matched wines so well. What stood out compared with other Michelin meals I'd had this year was how they managed flavorful dishes while accommodating my onion and garlic allergy, including making special sauces. Dinner lasted six hours, a little too long for us. By the four hour mark we were quite full, and I couldn't finish half my wine glasses or the last five dishes. Most people seemed to stay for five or six hours. I assume the special sauces for me took the chefs extra time, which is completely understandable. We absolutely loved it and will definitely come back.

The late breakfast is awesome, and the service was great from check-in right through to leaving. The beaches are within walking distance, and it's dog friendly overall. The rooms were perhaps a little too hot, but at 800 years old, you don't really mind that there's no AC. Go for the gourmet stay, you won't be disappointed. 🤗
