Bromølle Kro

The owners were kind and accommodating, even though the hotel was extremely busy, and helped us add a third night after our two-night Hotels.com booking. We were visiting Denmark for the first time, and needed to stay in Jyderup for family reasons. This little gem extends to the town as well as the hotel. Copenhagen was about an hour away by car, and the town itself was a 5-10 minute drive, with shops, Netto, Spar, places to eat, and a train station. Our room was in the group of rooms behind the main building, which dates back to the 12th century. I’m not sure whether the main house also has accommodation. It has the breakfast and dinner areas, outdoor dining, and a function room. I think there are around 30 rooms. We faced the car park, which turned out to be great, and greenery with a river running below. The room was clean and roomy enough, as was the bathroom. It had a fantastic double bed, desk and chair, a two-seater lounge, an armchair, coffee table, kettle, tea and coffee. The outdoor furniture was clean too. There’s no air conditioning, but you can ask for a fan. We aimed ours at the open French doors to the balcony and it cooled the room a lot. Without that, we found it warm and uncomfortable at night. There’s no fridge, but the hotel can give you ice. We bought a bucket and ice in town instead, which worked for us. Every room has a furnished balcony, which was fantastic in the unusual weather, hot in the sun and cold in the shade. Once the sun warmed ours up, it was impossible to sit outside. Maybe umbrellas could be provided. Smokers can use the balcony. The buffet breakfast was included and had plenty of choices, good value for Denmark, which we found generally expensive. We also ate at the restaurant, which was usually quite full. I don’t know if the other diners were locals or hotel guests. The meals were amazing though not cheap, and the steak was worth ordering. The wine and service were impeccable. There’s free Wi-Fi with an excellent connection and free parking. We found the laundry service expensive.

The meat was cooked perfectly and the food was very good. Service was friendly, professional, and spot on. Bromølle Kro is a historic place in a beautiful setting, and definitely worth a visit.

Our vegan three-course meal was beautifully presented and really tasty, and the service was impeccable. We’d booked a table the day before, but arrived 45 minutes early and it was already ready for us. The dessert was the one letdown: the ice cream was served very frozen, and I found a small piece of plastic underneath it. Even so, it was a highly enjoyable meal in lovely surroundings.

The surprise appetiser of homemade bread and butter was divine, and the portions were generous. The food was still recommendable, though it lacked seasoning and wasn’t fantastic. What makes Bromølle Kro feel like an experience rather than just dinner is its authenticity and history. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff and other guests were an absolute pleasure to be around.
