The seaside setting is lovely by day, with great views and a peaceful spot for walks along the shore. I stayed one night at Karrebæksminde Strandhotel on a work trip after booking through Agoda. At night, though, the area gets dark and nearly empty, so arriving then can make things harder. Check-in is self-service: the hotel sends instructions and a map for collecting the key and finding the room. It’s straightforward, but the poor lighting makes it tricky after dark, so I’d suggest checking in before nightfall. A calm, scenic place if that’s what you’re after.

There was nobody on site, and the WiFi details in the self check-in packet were wrong. I emailed to ask for the correct password, but got no reply until the next day, leaving us without access for the first 24 hours. The photos are really misleading, so this wasn't what we expected when we hoped for a memorable visit. It wasn't the worst place, but we were disappointed.

I was sincerely disappointed by the standard for 1320 kr a night. We’d booked a double room with one double bed, but there were two single beds pushed together with a table between them. There was only one key, which made no sense for two guests. The bathroom had cobwebs beside the hairdryer and mirror, and there was plaster on the floor just inside the door. The television didn’t work, and the remote was filthy with dust and dirt. At the room entrance there was also an ugly lamp that looked like a sewer. Amungak akt.
