Villa Gertrud

The owner's warmth and hospitality are what made our stay so lovely. On our wedding morning, my husband and I opened the bedroom door to find a beautiful bouquet of tulips she'd thoughtfully left for us. It made us smile. We came from Germany and stayed at Villa Gertrud for two nights while traveling in Denmark to get married. We'd chosen it for the easy walk to the train station, town hall, and city center, and were pleasantly surprised by the charm of the building and rooms. I definitely recommend Villa Gertrud. The owner's friendliness makes all the difference.

The location is excellent, and the woman at reception in the morning was nice. The evening service isn't really there: someone calls and tells you how to get in. That does require a bit of trust, which I appreciated. The rooms felt cramped and stuffed, weren't very comfortable, and didn't seem very clean. There were spiders in the corners. The kitchen was basic, and the bathrooms were squeezed into tiny spaces, with everything kept to a minimum. Breakfast was just coffee, orange juice, and bread. I know it's cheap, but I've paid the same elsewhere and gotten much better.

The bed was okay, and the room did the job for the eight hours we needed, mostly sleeping and showering. We arrived late and left too early for breakfast. We chose the private bathroom and kitchenette room for 590 DKK per night, without breakfast. It's a basic B&B with some rough edges, but the price and location suited us. You get what you pay for. The rooms have very little sound insulation, so hallway and room conversations carry through, and the road outside is especially noticeable. Next time I need a quick overnight stop, I'll probably pay a few hundred DKK more and stay somewhere else.

A really cozy place, with a clean room, delicious breakfast, and super nice, friendly staff.
