Kallehavegaard Badehotel

There’s plenty of parking right in front of the hotel, and the atmosphere is pleasant in this inviting place. The breakfast is especially high quality, with lots of fresh fruit and interesting ideas, though it doesn’t include the usual scrambled eggs or croissants. The rooms have quite a few drawbacks: noise carries through the walls and doors, including footsteps in the hallway and on the floor above. The shower has no floor barrier, so water ends up across the bathroom. There’s no safe, fridge, room cleaning, free WLAN, or TV. There’s also no lobby for evenings, and not much seating in the room.

The hotel is a lovely walk from the beach, which is one of Denmark’s best spots for sunsets over the sea. Inside, the pastel colors, mostly blue and white, give the rooms and shared spaces a gentle look. Breakfast felt almost entirely homemade, with all sorts of baked goods and the best Rullepølse you could imagine. You boil your own eggs and bring a little timer to the table to keep track. They’d even found a supply of Gammel Knas, Denmark’s latest cheese craze, a firm aged cheese with salt crystals. The lovely host team kept filling our coffee cups at the table, like being welcomed into a Danish family’s home.

The location was just right for a fun vacation, near the beach and only a five-minute walk from the village center. Our rooms had a beach look, with white and shades of blue, comfortable beds, and a spacious bathroom. The owners were very friendly, and we enjoyed the delicious breakfast.

We can’t wait to return to what we think is the best hotel in northern Denmark. 🇩🇰
