Bandholm Badehotel

We left and found somewhere else to stay. The rooms and cleanliness were terrible, and the reception service was just as bad. We were told the hotel couldn't refund us because we had booked through Expedia, which we believed was a lie since the hotel could cancel a reservation. After reading about who owns the place, we're glad we didn't give them another euro. There were dozens of large spiders in our room. My wife has arachnophobia, so staying wasn't possible. Reception said the spiders were drawn to the light and nothing could be done, even though the room had been dark until we arrived. The area apparently has a spider problem, but the Best Western 15 minutes away didn't have one. We also read that the hotel is run by some kind of Christian cult. We arrived to find one key in a used paper sleeve. I wish I could give it less than one star.

The staff were super friendly, and the room was neat and clean. Breakfast was very, very good, and the place has loads of character. We stayed one night while travelling and gave it four stars, mainly because the parking and restaurant arrangements were odd. Guest parking at the adjacent accommodations fills up fast and isn't well organized. Regular cars can't use the electric car spaces, while electric cars can park in the regular spaces. You also have to reserve a table at the hotel restaurant, even though it was practically empty when we visited. There's almost nowhere to eat in Bandholm, so you'd have to drive to other villages.

I paid for a sea-view room, but didn't get one. The rooms are okay, though at that price I'd expect more attention to detail. Management could put more care into organizing things.

Dinner and breakfast were superb, especially with the Bistro space to ourselves. We loved the classic decorations, and the service was pleasant. They also helped us with a late checkout, which we really appreciated. We might come back again.
