Munkebo Kro

A lovely traditional Danish tavern. The kitchen made good use of seasonal ingredients, and the chef deserves plenty of credit. I'd come back.

We had the set menu for our group of 11. The table looked lovely and the wines were great, but the food itself felt very ordinary and disappointing for what we paid. I'd rate it 5 out of 10.

Breakfast was far more substantial than the hotel's description of it as continental suggested. It was beautifully laid out, with white tablecloths and all. Our room and the rest of the hotel were immaculate, with beautiful fjord views, and Annette gave us such a warm welcome that we would have forgiven any imperfections. My wife and I loved the place's mix of old-world charm and modern comfort. The staff work hard, and the owners are gracious. We chose Munkebo Kro from online reviews while still in the United States and felt lucky to be there. Denmark and the Danes had been amazing during our extended holiday, and the hotel lived up to a high standard. Highly recommended.

With Covid restrictions in place during our visit, reception service was understandably limited, and the restaurant and bar were closed. The hotel had plenty of procedures to help guests, though. Our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was packed and provided each morning, and other refreshments were available. I'd love to return under normal circumstances.
