The view over the lake and fields is amazing, and the rooms are clean, spacious and basic. I paid 785 DKK for one night in a twin room with breakfast, although I was the only person on the booking. It’s a quiet place in Nordborg where you can hear birds and not spend a lot, though it’s attached to a sports center and there wasn’t anyone at reception when I arrived around 7 PM. I had to get my keys from a lockbox. There’s a small cafeteria by the sports center, but it closes at 8 PM, and there’s nowhere nearby to get food later. Ask for a lake-facing room when booking, though I’m not sure whether you can request one. I got mine by sheer luck. For a hotel in a remote town, you can’t expect much more.

The surroundings are lovely, with a lake and plenty of greenery, and the training facilities include a hall, outdoor courts and a training room. But there were ashtrays on every balcony, and during our stay there was a lot of smoking around us. We couldn’t leave the door or window open without the smell coming in. That was a real shame, since the hotel says the rooms are non-smoking and smoking is prohibited in all common and private areas. Breakfast wasn’t anything special, so we found other options.
