We cancelled in the end, so get a quote before you book. We first asked about holding an event at the end of 2024. They sent a food price list and an estimate for the venue hire, then pushed us to book quickly to secure 31 May 2025. Later, we were told that all Saturdays in May were available, so it may not have been as urgent as they made out. We paid DKK 7000 to book, which was non-refundable. I thought that was probably fine because we had confirmation of the price, and a few years earlier we had seen the rooms and more. At the beginning of January 25, we went to skjoldnæsholm to get a final offer. They first tried to move the event to the basement, which had never been discussed before and was far less impressive than the rest of the place. Then we got a standard price list that was different from the one given at booking, and twice as expensive. They said it would cost less because we had opted out of some things, so we waited for the offer. When it arrived, it was still significantly more than expected. We told them, and they again tried to get us to use the basement. The new offer was still 30-35% above what we had been told when booking.

We loved our stay and got a glimpse of Danish hygge, with elegant halls, a quiet neighbourhood, and exquisite food.

The place has a royal, antique feel and a great atmosphere, with peaceful nature around it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and nice, with its own bathroom. I had both lunch and dinner there, and the food was tasty. I warmly recommend it for couples looking to spend a lovely time together.

The food is wonderful, the grounds are well kept, and the rooms are pretty over the top. Even with the remodels over the years, you can still see the beautiful old world elements alongside the modern improvements. If you get the chance to stay here, do it!
