Det Gamle Posthus

The building has a lot of potential. It’s historic and charming from the outside, a short walk from the ferry and just off the town’s main square. Sadly, that was about all it had going for it. The service didn’t feel friendly or focused on guests, and the room was not clean. I booked a couple of months in advance. A few days before our stay, staff emailed to ask when we expected to arrive, and I replied that it would be between 14:00-15:00. We got there at 13:55 and couldn’t find anyone, just a sign saying the restaurant section was closed on weekends. I called the number from the email. The woman said she couldn’t get there for another hour. It would have been helpful to know that when I replied to her email. She did tell me where I could leave our luggage with a colleague in the building. When we came back an hour later, she showed us upstairs. She opened one room, saw it wasn’t clean yet, then did the same with another. In the third, she said we could stay and left to get a key, telling us we were the only guests and could leave the door open. I started my usual room check. The bed cover had marks that looked like bed bug stains, the sheets had dirt marks, and one corner of the wall had about 8x8 inches of black mold. There was dust and lint on the carpet, especially around the edges, and spiders high up on the walls. When I pointed it out, she offered to change the bedding. She didn’t think the marks looked like bed bugs, though she wasn’t familiar with the English term I used. She called the mold “just cosmetic” and said she could clean it, but needed time to go to a shop for supplies. We decided to find another hotel. I knew when I booked that refunds wouldn’t be allowed after a certain number of days, but I took the chance and regretted it. We didn’t get our money back, but we’d rather lose it than stay in a dirty, moldy room that might have bugs. So sad. I wish I’d taken photos, but only thought of it after we left.
