Griffen Spa Hotel

A pleasant spot with a decent spa. I would have liked a warmer water option, and I’m fairly sure massages weren’t available around New Year.

I hadn’t booked ahead, so it was a nice surprise to find that breakfast and access to the gym and spa were included. There are several types of rooms in the spa, including dry and steamy ones, plus foot baths, a massage pool, an outdoor jacuzzi, juices and fruit. Our room was clean and spacious. I’m a light sleeper, and our room near the stairs and elevator was a bit noisy. I could also hear a machine, maybe a water pump, though I’m not sure. Still, I had a really good stay at Spa Griffen hotel. We had a drink on the terrace under covers and dimmed lights, and bikes are available to rent.

We borrowed the hotel bikes one evening and rode out to find dinner, which was a real plus. The staff were lovely and helpful, and breakfast was a very good, nicely presented buffet. We stayed for a weekend with a sea view. The landscape was lovely to wake up to, though the room got a bit too warm overnight. There was no ventilation that we could see, and opening the window meant hearing the road traffic. The hotel itself is nice, and the spa and gym, while not huge, have everything you’d want. Spa guests are offered drinks and fruit, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing.

The location, spa and breakfast were great, and the staff were nice. The restaurant menu prices could use a review. For a four-star hotel, the rooms could be better. The carpets looked old and had a strange, unpleasant smell, probably from the humidity. I’d suggest replacing them with wooden floors, especially in a seaside hotel where damp air is common.
