Hotel Skovly

The owners are a lovely couple, and they even packed us breakfast for our early ferry back. The buffet was nice, though fairly standard, and a little more day-to-day variety would have been welcome. They did serve lots of fresh homemade jams and granola. Set in a forest, the hotel is beautiful, cozy, clean, well organized and well maintained. Our room had a peaceful view, and the beach is just a five-minute walk away. There’s plenty of parking, plus birdsong, flowing water and forest trails for hiking. We’d definitely stay again.

The setting is beautiful, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and we liked having air conditioning and a small fridge. The beds were really hard, though. We also enjoyed the mini golf and the quiet evenings. It’s close by car to lots of museums and sights, and the hotel is wheelchair and dog friendly. Unfortunately, half our group got food poisoning during the stay, so we cut the visit short. We contacted the hotel, and they first suggested getting in touch with the mayonnaise manufacturer, which surprised us. Later they said three other people had also reported feeling sick, but suggested we might all have picked it up at the dog show the day before. We hadn’t eaten or drunk anything at the show, only at the hotel. We suspect the condiments, the mayo served with our panini, which came in a basket to take to our room, since the only person in our group who didn’t get sick hadn’t eaten any. The hotel staff didn’t seem supportive or sympathetic.

We chose Hotel Skovly for two things: its tucked-away spot in the forest, far from the main road, and its focus on cyclists, gravel riding in our case. It delivered on both. The owners were friendly and helpful, and the two dogs were cute. Google, I don’t know why you mark my review as offensive. There’s a useful bike service station on site for cleaning your bike after a ride, though a hose with running water or a pump spray bottle would help. The PV compressor didn’t work, and the AV one was a bit tired, but there’s a standing pump you can borrow at the front desk. You can also pick up basics like inner tubes. Gravel paths through the surrounding forest are good for riding, hiking or running, and make a great start for longer routes. Cycleway 10 goes right past the hotel. The owner uploads routes and rides to Strava, which I used as a base for exploring the island. It’s very quiet in the forest, and there’s a beach about a two-minute walk away. There are benches there, and the west coast gives you a beautiful sunset view. Rønne is about 10-15 minutes by bike, either on a great gravel trail or by road if you’re a road cyclist. Breakfast is a buffet. It wasn’t as varied as at much bigger hotels, to be fair, but it was tasty and I loved the jams and eggs. I did miss having a restaurant on site. After a full day cycling, I didn’t feel like using the free grill, so we went to eat in Rønne instead. We had the premium room, which was big enough for both our gravel bikes. It was fine, though the cleaning could have been better. The sofa was great for relaxing, and the bed was fine, but the pillows were too soft for me. I’d prefer more modern Danish-style windows that open inward and have mosquito screens, so I could get a draft instead of using the air conditioning. The room does have AC, and it worked great. The small refrigerator was a bit loud at night, while the TV and Wi-Fi were welcome. The Wi-Fi has several access points but no roaming, so you have to connect to each one and let your device switch to the strongest signal itself. That’s not much of an issue if you mostly stay in your room. We’re very happy with our visit and would come back someday. I’d recommend Skovly Hotel as a good base to explore Bornholm, especially for gravel and MTB cyclists. Cheers!

We had a great breakfast, and the apartments were cozy in a beautiful location. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!
