The hostel’s response to what sounds like a minor issue was hostile and completely out of proportion. Three students allegedly failed to clean up properly, and the hostel removed all the kitchenware, pots, pans, utensils, cups, bowls, plates, everything. It also threw away thousands of dollars’ worth of groceries meant to feed our group of around 70 college students. Dozens of us were left with no way to cook. There was no compassion, communication, or accountability. Students often travel on tight budgets and depend on making their own meals. Forcing everyone to eat out in one of Europe’s most expensive countries because of a few people’s actions felt unfair and unethical. I rarely write reviews, but this was too outrageous to leave unsaid. If you’re a large group or care about fairness, empathy, and basic decency, don’t stay here. If collective punishment and moral disregard are fine with you, perhaps it’s the place for you.

The community kitchen was completely empty and unusable. When I asked for a kettle to make coffee, they told me to go to a restaurant if I wanted hot water. The rooms were poorly maintained, the beds were dirty, and cleanliness overall left a lot to be desired. The service was unacceptable, and the experience was beyond terrible. I’d give less than one star if I could. Avoid this place at all costs.

A good value stay. The room was clean and tidy, and reception was friendly. It’s nicely located near the water and the Viking ship museum. Breakfast was above hostel standard and filling enough to get going for a long day of travel.

The view over the bay is amazing, and the location is beautiful, right beside the Viking boat museum and the shipbuilders’ workplace. Rooms are a good size, though they can get hot without a fan or air conditioning. I liked the artwork, since every room and each walk is unique. Parking can run short, so you may have to wait for a space.

The location is very good, but I’d only stay one night. It had the most boring breakfast I’ve come across.
