The food after the event fell short of what I expected, and the dining room's high ceiling made it echo. There wasn't enough sound insulation either. The small castle is a pleasant place for events with talks and dining. The lecture room was fine, though unusual, since the lack of space meant we had to sit in a V shape. Fruit and snacks were fine. I'd call the experience acceptable, but no better than standard, so a 3.

The service was top notch, and the cuisine was world class. It's a fabulous little pleasure castle with a beautiful view of Rungsted Coast.

The hotel isn't handicap-friendly. Our overnight guests who stayed there were very happy with their bright, lovely rooms and the breakfast buffet. I can highly recommend Sophienberg Slot. It hosted the memorial after my husband's funeral, and on such a sad day, when you just want things to go smoothly, I felt in safe hands. The day ended well. The rooms were bright, the buffet was delicious and well prepared, and I really appreciated how friendly and flexible everyone was.

The party room itself was fine, as were the staff who were there that evening. But our basement room was a different matter. When we found it, we couldn't open the door. We'd driven a long way from Høng, needed the toilet, and had to get changed in time to welcome the newlyweds at the "Castle". We went back to reception to report it. We certainly weren't the only guests locked out, and although they did fix the problem, it took time. Once inside, we found there was no toilet paper. The room phone wasn't connected, so we had to walk back to reception again, then knock on a neighbor's door to borrow some paper. There was no TV, just wires coming out of the wall where it should have been, and the shower was so clogged with limescale that it was hard to get enough water to rinse soap from my hair. There was no refrigerator either. Shouldn't a castle room costing 1,400 kr. a night have one? We'd booked a double room for a wedding on April 27th because we live 120 km from the castle. The wedding had been moved from Næsbyholm Castle because of a fire. We didn't get much for our money as far as the accommodation went. The building was being renovated, and the floor had cracks in several places. We thought the room, or at least the area, would have a view of the Øresund for 1,400 kr., but from the basement we could only see a gravel path if we stood on tiptoe. Not great. At least three other couples had similar problems and also raised them with reception. The young woman working there could only apologize, which was fair enough. Later, we wrote to the castle about the problems and got a surprisingly quick response, but it was negative. They said the wedding couple had approved the facilities. That was nonsense. We booked the room and paid for it, so we can judge whether it was worth 1,400 kr. It absolutely wasn't. The castle wrote, "The case is considered closed," on the basis of the couple's approval. We spoke to the couple afterwards, and they had NEVER been near the basement rooms at Sophienberg Castle. I give it 1½ stars minus for the lousy accommodation, and 1½ stars minus for the lack of respect for customers. The idea that the customer is always right hasn't reached Rungsted at all.
