The staff were genuinely kind and helpful, which was the best part of our stay. The room, though, was very dirty and had a strong stale-carpet smell. Its interior looked like it hadn’t changed since the 70s or 80s, and there weren’t any information brochures or similar when we arrived. We also couldn’t leave the windows open safely overnight: they only stayed fully open or fully shut, a concern on the first floor with people able to walk in from the backyard. The food was pricey for what it was, and the restaurant’s high-class image felt out of step with the place as a whole.

They seemed seriously short-staffed, though the people we met were friendly. The bed linen was dirty, and housekeeping didn’t seem to be available. For about DKK 900 a night, I expected more choice at dinner: on the first evening it was wienerschnitzel or nothing. We skipped dinner there the next night and got takeout from another place. I’d give this place a miss.

The friendly, country-style atmosphere was nice, and the potato-leek soup with buttered bread and crispy bits was rich and tasty. My friend enjoyed the Flæsk, the grilled or fried pork, especially if you like bacon, and there was as much as you could eat. They usually serve pork in different ways, but because of corona restrictions they served one type at the table instead of a buffet. I understand the hygiene reason, though they could have offered two or three types. We paid about 440kr for two, which wasn’t especially cheap. I tried the Weiner schnitzel, and it was a dried-out piece of meat with edges that were hard to cut and chew, possibly from the back of the freezer. That brought it down to three stars at most. We went as two adults for an early dinner on a Thursday, their “flæsk-day”.

The classic Danish food and excellent service are the reasons I’d recommend eating here. Don’t expect a fancy, modern kitchen. The decor feels straight out of the 80s, and it doesn’t seem like much has been updated since.

The rooms felt a bit dated, and breakfast was only decent. The lobby area shuts at night, and the restaurant closes early. The staff were friendly, but the room rate seemed quite high. Maybe I visited in the wrong season, though I’m not sure.
