Hotel Dania

There’s no fridge or some of the other appliances business travellers might want, but the place has such a lovely, independent feel that I stopped missing them. The hotel’s old-fashioned keys and fobs are a reminder of its history. It’s comfortable, with a very nice interior, friendly staff, and great service. The spot right on the town square is excellent, though it does make parking a little tricky.

The rooms were comfortable and everyone on staff was courteous and attentive. I especially want to thank the people who found the wallet I’d left in my room and mailed it back to me in the UK. That was incredibly helpful. I had a lovely stay.

It’s in a very convenient spot in the city centre, and breakfast had a great range of choices. The hotel dates back to the 19th century, so the rooms and furnishings feel old. The bathrooms are the main problem and really need renovating. Everything was extremely clean, though. Fine for a short stay, as long as you don’t expect too much.

I’ve stayed here a couple of times. The location is excellent by Silkeborg standards, and I have no real complaint about the cleaning. Still, the hotel is only okay. The rooms have a tourist-hotel feel, with little space, old furniture and appliances, and an outdated bathroom. The staff haven’t been fantastic either. They charged me another 50 kr for heating and similar costs on arrival, even though I’d prepaid the room. Since I paid extra for heating, I expected the room to be warm, but it was about 16 degrees with the heating off. The old radiators were slow, and reception was empty when I went downstairs. At least there were extra blankets in the room. Management, if you charge extra for electricity and heating, make sure the rooms are warm.
