Radisson Hotel Papirfabrikken Silkeborg

The staff were friendly, breakfast was decent, and the location is great, near shops and restaurants with a view over the beautiful river. The room was clean but bare and bland. My wife said on FaceTime that it looked like I was in a prison. The floor and built-in wooden fittings squeaked everywhere I walked. When I used the steam iron, the lights flickered or went out completely, as shown in the video, so I had to iron in the dark with my phone as a flashlight. Pretty ridiculous.

The room was pleasantly quiet once I switched off the AC. Staff and other hotel employees were very friendly and made me feel welcome. The hotel is in a recently renovated historic industrial site, right by a nice flowing river, and the city centre is a short walk away. I’d recommend it if you’re planning to visit the Silkeborg.

Anni was great with our American group even though we arrived late. She answered our questions about the area, the language, and basic local customs, upgraded our room, and let us know the hotel would close in a few days for Christmas, which we hadn’t known. Elisabeth was just as pleasant on the morning shift and helped us find breakfast and check out smoothly. Christian was tougher to deal with on the night shift. He got short with us after we pulled out a phone calculator and decided to book online at a better rate. He’d quoted the in-person price only in Danish crowns, and once we worked it out, it was prohibitively expensive by comparison. Overall, a very positive experience.

On 15 January 2026, at around 11:00 a.m., we were having coffee in an entirely empty hotel lobby. Two staff members came over and asked what country we were from. When we said Ukraine, they told us the whole lobby was “reserved” and asked us to leave. There was no information about a reservation anywhere. It’s inappropriate for staff at an international hotel to ask guests where they’re from, and it suggests bias. I consider it an abuse of authority. Zero rating. 19 January 2026: After the hotel responded, I want to clarify that they asked our country of origin before telling us the lobby was reserved. There was no visible notice about the booking outside, in the lobby, or at reception. No one mentioned a restriction when we ordered coffee either. If a hotel expects guests to follow restrictions, it needs to clearly tell them about those restrictions in advance.
