Danhostel Skagen

We spent four nights here as a family of four. The outdoor area was lovely for relaxing, and the whole place was very clean. Staff were friendly, and having a kitchen to cook our own meals was handy, though it could use a few more cups and glasses. There was plenty of other crockery and cooking gear, plus good ovens. Breakfast was an okay, typical Danish buffet. The main letdown was no washing machine. If you're arriving by train, Frederikshavnsvej St is closer. We also recommend renting bikes from CykelUdlejning.

Back in 2009 and 2010 this place was great. Now be prepared to freeze. It was 54€ for a room for one person, with no heat, not even in the bathroom, and nobody around to help when needed. They only turned the heater on in the morning. The sun came up before 5am, and there was nothing to darken the room, so I couldn't sleep because I was cold and then woke at 5 because of the light. So disappointed. I'm not coming back.

Maybe Skagen's popularity with tourists explains the high price. And the bathroom setup was uncomfortable: there isn't a door, just a thin curtain between you and everyone else in there, so it feels like you're on display.

The rooms were small, but clean. I found the shared bathrooms less practical than the kitchen and dining room, since the showers and toilets are mixed together. The kitchen and dining area themselves were useful and clean. A quite good hostel.
