Vilcon Hotel & Konferencegaard

The food was nice, and the room was okay, though I’d have liked a better pillow. Hardly any water came from the shower head, so that needs attention. The service desk was terrible. They put the room invoice under my colleague’s name, then issued another without an address and told me they couldn’t change it. They could easily have asked first. This was a business trip, but maybe that’s not usual for the staff here.

Dinner was a letdown because the menu offered only one choice, so I had to eat elsewhere. Breakfast wasn’t great either, with stale cereal and overcooked bacon. The venue looks lovely, with lush furnishings and clear signs that money has been spent, and the room had more thoughtful touches than a basic hotel. It’s a very nice place to visit, but the little things need attention.

I waited a while before writing this, hoping the manager would contact me about what happened and wanting to review it with a calmer head. The facility looked very nice on arrival, although it really is in the middle of nowhere, and check-in went smoothly. My room was in the renovated farmhouse, with a shared kitchen and living room, plus a nice bedroom and bathroom. While unpacking, I thought I saw mouse droppings in the closet. I checked around and found nothing else at first, but when I went to bed, I pulled back the sheets with the light on and found a large urine stain. I moved to the two single beds, and a mouse and its nest fell onto the floor. After chasing it around for a bit, I realized it wasn’t my responsibility, hahaha. I packed up and went to the front desk. I had to call the hotel to get the employee to open the front door because he hadn’t heard me knocking. When I reported the mouse, he just handed me a key to a room in the main hotel building. He didn’t apologize and seemed annoyed that I wanted another room. Later that night I went back to the desk because I’d forgotten something, but couldn’t find him. I did see a note to the manager about me. The next day, there was no note or visit from the manager, and nothing at checkout either. The breakfast, restaurant area, and meeting facilities may be good, but don’t go out of your way to stay here. It’s in a farming area, so mice make sense. They should thoroughly clean and check the facilities before having guests stay. I won’t be back.

The rooms are spread among several buildings, so I’m not sure they all have the same design. The hotel and its surroundings were lovely, with a nice breakfast and friendly service. The conference hall was spacious and great for parties and weddings. My only issue was that the shower wasn’t warm enough. I didn’t have time to ask anyone to check it, and since I visited in summer, it wasn’t a deal breaker.
