Skjalm Hvide Hotel

We had a nice, tucked-away room with enough space for two, though the bed was a little smaller than I expected. The throw pillowcases smelled a bit funky and weren’t changed, and there’s no kettle in the room. Staff were friendly, but there was some confusion with the DND tag, which also doubles as a room-ready tag, and our room was missed for cleaning once. The restaurant specials we tried were delicious. Other restaurants, cafés, and shops are about a 10-20 minute drive away, though there’s a bus stop right outside. I might book again if we have an event nearby.

We only stayed a night, and the room had a good modern bathroom and enough space for our two touring bikes and panniers. The restaurant’s beer and wine selection was nice, and dinner was quite good. The menu is limited, but my vegetarian partner still had a few choices. Breakfast had a good range of food too, and there’s a game room to keep people occupied. We enjoyed our stay.

The party noise went on all night, so I got no sleep. I’d specifically told them I needed to rest and get up early, yet they gave me a room where I could hear it. Hotels on Zealand seem to be either extremely expensive or offer lousy service at a still high price like this. I may have no choice but to return, but I’ll really try to avoid it.

I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels around the world, and this one is a nice place. It’s cosy and clean, with lovely surroundings for a walk or a bike ride. There’s a good atmosphere everywhere. It’s family-owned in the best way, and you can tell the staff actually like their jobs. Well done. Jens
